International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

What makes IB different from other programs?

An IB education is unique because of its rigorous academic and personal standards. IB programmes challenge students to excel not only in their studies but also in their personal growth. The IB aims to inspire a lifelong quest for learning hallmarked by enthusiasm and empathy. To that end, the IB gathers a worldwide community of supporters who celebrate our common humanity and who share a belief that education can help to build a better world.

The IB connects this higher purpose with the practical details of teaching and learning. A global community of IB World Schools put these principles into practice, developing standards for high-quality education to which they hold themselves mutually accountable. An IB education represents a testament to the power of this collaboration.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma program is a comprehensive and rigorous college-preparatory program designed to meet the needs of academically talented and highly motivated high school students. Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland may offer the IB curriculum and allow their students to sit for IB examinations in hopes of earning an IB diploma. IB Students follow a prescribed course of study in six disciplines, sit for examinations in each discipline, and fulfill additional requirements of the program. Students enrolled in IB schools take the same curriculum and sit for the same examinations.

IB World School students develop strong academic, social and emotional characteristics. They are also likely to perform well academically – often better than students on other programmes. There is more information about the performance of IB students on the IB programme pages on the IBO website. For example, students in the IB Diploma Programme (DP) are likely to enroll at top universities. For more information specific to East High check out our profile by viewing the East High IB Profile.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB), and the Diploma Programme (DP) in particular, enjoys a high level of respect and recognition among the world’s higher education institutions. For students, success in the IB often results in advanced standing, course credit, scholarships, and other admissions related benefits at many universities.
