AVID
AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. Since it’s implementation at Wichita High School East in 2009, our program has graduated over a thousand students ready for excellence in school and life.
- AVID classes have earned $1,000,000+ in scholarships collectively each year since 2019
- We’ve had 2 RUDD scholars, a Linwood Sexton scholar, and countless qualifying Kansas Scholars
- Over 90% graduate meeting the minimum entrance requirements of a 4-year university
- Over 70% will be the first person in their family to attend college
- Over 50% attempt college classes BEFORE graduation
Entrance into the Wichita East AVID program is by application, interview, and selection. Students admitted into the program participate in activities that promote Focused Note Taking, inquiry through the Guided Tutorial Process, personal organization (both digital and through binders), and practice self-management.
Participating students agree to the following while in the program:
- Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
- Satisfactory citizenship and attendance
- Enroll in college preparatory courses
- Work actively to create viable post-secondary plans
Being admitted to the program is no guarantee of college attendance, but we pride ourselves on helping students launch for success. Like our Alma Mater says, we are “Blue Aces soaring in the sky.”
The application for East High AVID is currently closed for the 2024-25 Academic year. It will re-open in the fall of 2024 for the 2025-26 term.
