OVERVIEW

PHOTOGRAPHY IS a part of the Graphic Communications cluster of courses.  Students deal with both traditional film and paper photography as well as digital photography.  Students are encouraged
to keep and develop a portfolio.  Three courses are offered in photography.  An overview of courses offered is shown below.

VIS COMM - PHOTOGRAPHY 1:  Students learn fundamental photographic techniques.  Units include vision and light, photographic design, communicative approaches, film type, and developing, enlarging, optics, instrumentation, and camera mechanics.  Students learn to use cameras and mechanics.  Students learn to use cameras and other technical equipment of the photographer.  This course offers growth potential toward vocational pursuits.  Students, study, learn, and use safety
rules in all activities.

VIS COMM - PHOTOGRAPHY 2:  Students in this course build on the basics of photography learned in Photography 1.  Study will introduce the student to specialty use materials and create some special effects photography. More emphasis on digital techniques is stressed.  Controlled lighting situations will be emphasized.  Also basic skills will be refined.  PhotoShop usage will be an integral of this course.

VIS COMM - PHOTOGRAPHY 3:  This course is established for the advanced study of photography based on the skills and content taught in Photography 1 and 2.  Students will be dealing with higher level thinking skills to produce creative and original communication materials.  This curriculum will be closely related to high technological industry.  The student will examine those  industries, and he/she will formulate his/her own concept which will be vital for the year 2004 and beyond.  This student's independent, learning-to-learn attitude will be stressed.
