OVERVIEW

FOUR COURSES are offered in our Construction Program at East High.  Local Contractors are in integral part of the educational experience in that they provide hands on instruction for students.  They also provide equipment and supplies used in learning activities.  An overview of course offered is shown below.

ACES CONSTRUCTION CAREERS 1:  Students spend approximately 2-3 weeks learning about 13 crafts including carpentry, cement masonry, electricity, steel erection, metal building, glazing,  roofing, heavy equipment, concrete finishing, form carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and painting.  Students may have the opportunity for a paid summer job in the construction industry.  This is a good introductory course for students wanting to learn an employable craft or attend college majoring in architecture, architectural engineering, other engineering fields, and construction science.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY:  Students receive instruction and hands on experience in the construction trade.  Students spend approximately 3-4 weeks on each craft and learn skills in electricity, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and other construction crafts.  Students may have the opportunity for a paid summer job in the construction feild.

ACES CONSTRUCTION CAREERS 2:  Students use the skills learned in their prerequisite classes and also use computer technology to design and building and construct a model.  Classroom instruction will include OSHA certification and employment skills.  Students must be enrolled in the employment class
and will report to their work sites in the afternoon.

ACE CONSTRUCTION CAREERS 2 EMPLOYMENT:  Students are placed in a job in the construction industry and work in the afternoons.  Most students change jobs about every six weeks to experience different construction crafts.
