Mission Statement
Wichita High School East provides a collaborative community where all students and staff are actively engaged in learning.
Three Guiding Questions
All our efforts are guided by the following questions:
- What do we expect students to learn?
- How will we know what students have learned?
- How will we respond to students who are not learning?
In Answer To Those Questions
The Wichita school district has established standards for each area of the curriculum. Teachers from each area are meeting to align their classroom content to those standards.
In addition to formative assessments to track student progress, teachers are working together to establish summative assessments aligned to district standards to track student progress. Students also take state assessments in reading and mathematics, social studies, science, and writing. The district is working to establish standardized assessments for each of these courses.
East High teachers work in professional learning communities (PLC) to share research-based practices that impact student learning, discuss student achievement and alter teaching practices accordingly.
Technology, in the form of PowerPoint demonstrations, web pages, eInstruction-type clickers, Blackboard, and Streaming Video, is used to engage students and enhance student learning.
